West-Midlands Credit Union Launches Energy Master Plan for Athlone
West-Midlands Credit Union successfully launched its Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) Energy Master Plan at its Irishtown offices on Wednesday, 24th September. The event brought together community leaders, participants, and business representatives to celebrate this important step towards a more sustainable future for Athlone.
The launch featured distinguished guests, including Mayor Vinnie McCormack, Local Councillor Frankie Keena, and President of Athlone Chamber Regina Bushell, highlighting the strong collaboration between West-Midlands Credit Union and community leaders.
The Energy Master Plan, developed with support from Westmeath County Council, the SEAI and ORS prepared by eTownz, provides a roadmap for improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and exploring renewable energy opportunities across homes, businesses, community buildings, and public services in Athlone. The plan identifies priority projects and access to grants and supports to help the community achieve measurable energy savings.
Supporting Members to be More Sustainable As part of its commitment to sustainability, West-Midlands Credit Union offers green finance options to help members make environmentally responsible choices. These include the Greenify Loan, designed to fund energy-efficient home improvements, and the Green Car Loan, which supports the purchase of electric vehicles. These products aim to make sustainable living more accessible to members while reducing carbon footprints across the community.

Call to Action for Community Groups
West-Midlands Credit Union invites community groups and organisations working on sustainable or energy-focused projects to get in touch so their projects can be included in the plan.
Residents, business owners, and community groups are encouraged to stay engaged as the Energy Master Plan moves from planning to implementation, helping to shape the future of energy use in Athlone.
