Sustainable Energy Community

The West-Midlands Credit Union Athlone Office is delighted to announce that we have been appointed Sustainable Energy Community status by the SEAI. As part of our commitment to becoming a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC), we are dedicated to educating our members and the local community about energy-saving practices and promoting energy efficiency.

What is a Sustainable Energy Community

A Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) is a community in which communities come together everyone to develop a sustainable energy project for the benefit of the environment. To

do so, they aim to;

• be energy-efficient

• use renewable energy

• consider smart energy solutions

An SEC can include a range of different energy users in the community such as homes, sports clubs, community centres, churches and businesses. In this way, an SEC connects sustainable energy, local economic development and public wellbeing.

What’s Next …

An essential aspect of becoming an SEC is the creation of an Energy Master Plan. At a simple level, the Energy Master Plan allows a community to understand their energy demand and supply. The West-Midlands Credit Union Athlone office is excited to start this journey and will keep our members updated through the News section of our website and our social media channels
